Leaving campus without permission or a blue slip will be classified as a truancy. See truancy policy on page - for consequences.

LOITERING ON PRIVATE PROPERTY

SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
SAN DIEGO EDUCATIONAL COMPLEX
ATTENDANCE POLICY 2004-2005
To offer the best opportunities for our students, SciTech has implemented a "4x4" schedule, which allows students to complete four courses/credits each quarter and sixteen courses/credits per year.
As a result, attendance is critical. Each day missed on the "4x4" is the equivalent of two days missed on a traditional six-period day schedule. Attendance is especially critical for graduating seniors. Graduating seniors will not be allowed to attend senior functions/activities if they have any uncleared absences/truancies. Any student will be able to clear absences/truancies by attending Saturday School.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
To increase students' opportunities for success academically, we have established the following attendance policy:
Clearing Absences
Absences must be cleared with a note or a call from the parent/guardian within five days of the absence.
If not, the absence will be considered "unexcused" or "truant."
Make up of absences
Students must make up work missed due to absences within the progress report grading period.
The student must make arrangements with his/her teachers.
Makeup will cover any work missed during collaborative class work, labs, and other such activities.
Credit for makeup work for "unexcused" absences is allowed only after student attends Saturday School.
Saturday School
Saturday School helps the student earn credit for the missed class work. Only academic activities will be offered during these sessions.
Students who miss four or more days of class during a nine-week quarter (excused or unexcused) will be unable to receive a passing grade. Students may make up absences by attending Saturday School.
Saturday School will be offered most Saturday s from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon.
Saturday School will consist of test prep lessons including High School Exit Exam and SAT, and time to make up assignments.
Students late to class first period will also be assigned Saturday School for the third and subsequent tardies to each class per semester.
Medical Appointments
Medical Appointments should be scheduled outside of school hours to ensure that students receive maximum opportunities for instruction.
A signed Doctor's/Dentist's note is required to excuse these absences.
If your child must be excused during the school day for a medical appointment, please call or send a note to the office.
A "Blue Slip" will be sent to the student in his/her class. The student must sign out in the SciTech office before leaving campus.
Leaving Campus
Students may not leave the campus under any circumstances without the school receiving authorized permission from a parent/guardian. The student must sign out in the SciTech office before leaving campus. Students leaving the site without authorization will be considered "truant."
Contract Independent Study
We are discouraging parents from requesting that their son/daughter be excused from the school with a Contract for Independent Study (CIS).
Such an extended absence will seriously jeopardize a student's opportunity of passing his or her classes.
Education Code sections 46010 and 48205 identify acceptable reasons for absences as follows:
Excused Absences
Personal illness
School may require doctor's note, especially if absences are excessive.
Personal medical/dental appointment
Requires signed doctor/dentist note
Funeral services of parent, sibling, grandparent, or any relative living in the child's immediate household.
Limited to one day in California and three days out of state.

"Unexcused" absences will affect citizenship grade |
