COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Drawing and Painting 1- 2 is a two-semester course for grades 10 - 12. The prerequisite is Art 1- 2. Credit for this course counts toward the Fine and Practical Arts credits required for high school graduation.

This course is designed for students who have demonstrated talent in prerequisite courses and who desire to pursue a sequence of studies in art. Primary emphasis is placed on drawing, composition, and painting and in knowing and applying major painting techniques and styles to develop individual expression.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
Students will:
*Show sensitivity to the perceptual and tactile stimuli of their world.
*Apply a mature level of visual recall that includes discrimination in the perception and use of the art elements and principles in drawing, painting and composition.
*Use effectively a variety of both drawing and painting media and techniques and understand their potentials in expression.
*Apply skills in gesture, contour, modeling and perspective drawing approaches.
* Know artistic concerns of contemporary art movements; the ways in which these forms represent social, economic, political and cultural conditions; how they influence economic and aesthetic behavior; and how they affect the quality of contemporary life.
*Know periods of art history and be able to identify several exemplary works from each.
*Make judgments about aesthetic quality by providing, in both oral and written form, reasonable grounds for choice beyond mere preference.


COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
In order to be successful in art it is critical that students actively participate in their leaming. This means that each student must participate consistently, enthusiastically, and in a positive manner during daily whole class, small group, and individual lessons. Students should act responsibly in the classroom taking care of supplies and cleaning up after them. School rules will be enforced.
Students are expected to attend class and be punctual. Students who do not attend class will miss in-class demonstrations and activities that are crucial to their comprehension of the material. They will also be denied collaborative leaniing with their study temns. A deduction in scholastic grade will be given if time and work is not made up within one week before the progress report grading period. The semester grade primarily consists of completed projects, along with a notebook, semester test, and classroom responsibilities. Each project is graded on specific criteria to that project. The essential components of grading are workmanship, following directions, accuracy, neatness, creativity, and complexity, and a timely completion of projects.

EVALUATION FOR SCHOLARSHIP:
*Projects - 25%
*Notebook - 25%
*Classroom Responsibilities - good attendance, good attitude, best effort, good us of time, and classroom care - 25%
* Semester Test - 25%

PERCENTAGE AND GRADES:
* 90% and above - A
* 80% to 89% - B
* 67% to 79% - C
*66% and below - F

EVALUATION FOR CITIZENSHIP:
* Behavior in class
* Tardiness
* Truancies
