COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is a standards-based course that is designed to introduce
students to the elements and principles of art through reading, discussion,
writing, application and creative expression using a variety of media
and studio techniques. Several styles, from representational to abstract,
are explored from multicultural and historical perspectives. Students
will use the language of visual art to interpret. analvze and judge works
of art. Additionally, they will relate how art connects to other curricular
areas and explore the many career opportunities available in visual arts.
STANDARDS-BASED COURSE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
All five of the Visual Arts Standards will be touched upon:
* Artistic Perception
*Creative Expression
* Historical and Cultural Context
* Aesthetic Valuin
* Connections, Relationships, Applications
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
In order to be successful in art it is critical that students actively
participate in their learning. This means that each student must participate
consistently, enthusiastically, and in a positive manner during daily
whole class, small group, and individual lessons. Students should act
responsibly in the classroom taking care of supplies and cleaning up after
them. SchoolxWes will be enforced.
Students are expected to attend class and be punctual. Students who do
not attend class will miss in-class demonstrations and activities that
are crucial to their comprehension of the material. They will also be
denied collaborative learning with their study teams. A deduction in scholastic
grade will be given if time and work is not made up within one week before
the progress report grading period. Please refer to the School of Science
and Technology Attendance and Truancy Policy.
The semester grade primarily consists of completed projects, along with
a notebook, semester test, and classroom responsibilities. Each project
is graded on specific criteria to that project. The essential components
of grading are workmanship, following directions, accuracy, neatness,
creativity, and complexity, and a timely completion of projects.
EVALUATION FOR SCHOLARSHIP:
* Projects - 25%
* Notebook - 25%
* Classroom Responsibilities - good attendance, good attitude, best effort,
good use of time, and classroom care - 25%
* Semester Test - 25%
PERCENTAGE AND GRADES:
* 90% and above -A
* 80% to 89% - B
* 67% to 79% - C
*66% and below - F
EVALUATION FOR CITIZENSHIP:
*Behavior in class
* Tardiness
* Truancies
